Montevetrano winery, owned by Silvia Imparato, is located not far from Salerno. It had been created by the grandparents of Silvia and, then, was passed to her father, retaining more the farm’s character than the winery’s one; In fact, the wine, which at the time had not an excellent quality, was produced only in small quantities and almost exclusively for personal use by the farmers.

When Silvia's father died, the property was divided between his daughters: Silvia inherited the winery and her sister the agritourism. At that time in the vineyards Barbera and even small amounts of Uva di Troia, Aglianico and Piedirosso were cultivated.

In the early 80's Silvia, with a group of friends, including the winemaker Riccardo Cotarella began, just for fun, to experiment winemaking. The game went on for a long time, until 1991, when a wine worthy of the name, a strong and intense wine, a real wine, a wine well above expectations arised: the "Montevetrano". A wine made from Sauvignon and Aglianico to 70% to 30%, initially destined to the production of a few bottles for friends.

However, friends immediately liked this wine very much, so much that they sent a few bottles to a world expert to have an opinion: Robert Parker; he published an article in a magazine stating that "the Sassicaia of the south was born...". After this happy baptism, in 1994, Montevetrano winery was born.

Today Silvia, always aided by the enologist Riccardo Cotarella has 6 hectare property, where Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Aglianico grow, allowing a production of 30 thousand bottles of wine per year. A niche product that helps to give prestige to the whole Italy and Campania’s wine.
