Tenuta di Biserno is an important reality of the Tuscan Coast, created in 2001 on the initiative of important protagonists of the wine world of our peninsula. The project saw the light of day thanks to the desire of the brothers Lodovico and Piero Antinori, their nephew Niccolo' Marzichi Lenzi and Umberto Mannoni, to create a new estate in a particularly suitable area. The international success of the famous Supertuscans had the great merit of highlighting the value of an area that until the 1960s was little considered for viticulture, because it was poorly suited to the cultivation of Sangiovese. In reality, the coastline of the Costa degli Etruschi has proved perfect for hosting the most important Bordeaux grape varieties, which have found in this area a true land of election.
The territory of the Alta Maremma is characterized by special soil and climate conditions. The area occupies a strip of land along the coast, rising gently to the first reliefs of the hill range. The vineyards are located close to the sea, protected from the cold air currents that descend from the northeast. The climate is sunny and very bright, typically Mediterranean in character, always mitigated by the presence of sea breezes. The soils are quite heterogeneous and varied. In the coastal zone the presence of sands prevails, while moving inland, we find medium-textured, limestone-clay soils, with the presence of pebbles and ancient alluvial deposits, very suitable for the cultivation of red grapes.
The Biserno Estate is located in the municipal territory of Bibbona, north of Bolgheri. The vineyards cover a total area of about 40 hectares and are located at an altitude of about 90 meters above sea level. The choice of grape varieties fell on those most suited to the area: Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Thanks to the temperate climate, the grapes arrive at harvest time perfectly ripe and with particularly rich aromas. The wines are made following the classic model of the famous Bordeaux blends, with careful vinification and long aging in wood, which enhance their elegant and intense character. Inside the estate, an 18th-century building houses the prestigious Relais il Biserno, for those who wish to savor the pleasure of a relaxing moment among the vineyards.
