This Montefalco Rosso is one of the wines made by the Caprai winery, a production reality that, in the space of just over forty years, has managed to establish itself as a point of reference in Umbria and throughout the Italian peninsula. In the early 1970s, it was Arnaldo Caprai, a renowned textile entrepreneur with a dream of one day being able to walk among the rows of his own vineyard, who glimpsed the potential of the terroir surrounding the small municipality of Montefalco. An area that today, a few decades later, under the careful guidance of his son Marco and thanks to constant work made up of research, investment and experimentation, manages to express truly noteworthy red wines, just like this Montefalco Rosso.
Caprai's Montefalco Rosso wine is made from a careful selection of Sangiovese, to which is added, in equal measure, a small percentage of the local Sagrantino grape variety and Merlot. After a meticulous harvest, the grapes are vinified in steel, then aged for 12 months in Slavonian and French oak barriques. Bottling is followed by a further maturation in the bottle, of at least 4 months, to achieve the right evolutionary development before release.
Montefalco Rosso Caprai presents itself to the eye with a ruby red colour, dark and deep, not very transparent. The nose reveals a succession of fruity and floral notes, enhanced by spicy touches deriving from maturation in wood. On the palate, it is full-bodied, round, with a well-defined tannic texture and a pleasantly fresh sip. The ideal label to take your first steps into the universe of great red wines produced by the prestigious Caprai winery.
