MULLER THURGAU 'MERUS' TIEFENBRUNNER 2022 DESCRIPTION

Muller-Thurgau 'Merus' is a South Tyrolean bottle with distinctive and pleasant herbaceous aromas, produced in Corona, above the municipality of Cortaccia, by the Tiefenbrunner winery. The Classic 'Merus' line includes single-varietal interpretations of the most widespread white grape varieties in Alto Adige, including Müller-Thurgau, a genetic hybrid obtained in Germany at the end of the 19th century by crossing Riesling Renano and Madeleine Royale. Over the years, Tiefenbrunner has established itself as one of the greatest Italian interpreters of this grape variety, succeeding in obtaining qualitatively surprising results.
Tiefenbrunner 'Merus' Muller-Thurgau is an expression of the white grape variety of the same name cultivated on hilly soils formed by calcareous gravel of morainic origin, located between 750 and 900 metres above sea level. The vines face south and south-east and are trained using the pergola and espalier systems according to sustainable viticulture. In the cellar, the grapes undergo a classic white vinification process, with gentle pressing and alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature in concrete vats. The maturation phase also takes place in cement, where the mass remains for 4 months resting on the fine lees.
On visual examination, Tiefenbrunner's 'Merus' Muller-Thurgau shows a pale straw-yellow hue with greenish nuances. Hints of peach, citrus, wild herbs and nutmeg characterise the olfactory texture together with soft mineral perceptions. On the palate it is balanced, fine and delicate, with a pleasant fresh-savoury component accompanying the elegant finish. It is a Muller-Thurgau perfect to drink young in combination with fresh cheeses or lightly structured seafood preparations.
