PINOT NERO 'BARTHENAU - VIGNA SANT'URBANO' HOFSTATTER 2019 DESCRIPTION

The Pinot Noir Riserva "Vigna Sant'Urbano" represents one of the most prestigious and intense interpretations of the famous grape variety of French origin, which, in the extraordinary Barthenau Vigna Sant'Urbano cru of the Hofstatter winery, seems to have reached its highest expression.
The Sant'Urbano vineyard is located on the Barthenau estate in the small South Tyrolean village of Mazzone, in the province of Bolzano. Some of the vines are more than 65 years old, and the soil is a conglomerate of clay, lime, porphyry and fine gravel. The grapes harvested here are placed on small crates and then crushed. Twenty-five percent of them are put to ferment, without destemming, in barrels, while the remaining 75 percent, after a day of cold maceration, ferments slowly for 10 days at a controlled temperature. Once the winemaking process is complete, there is a maturation process that consists of three stages: resting for 14 months in barrels, blending and resting in a single large oak barrel for another 7 months, and bottle ageing for 12 months.
The Hofstatter Pinot Noir Riserva "Vigna Sant'Urbano" reveals its great density and concentration starting with a deep ruby red colour. The bouquet unveils slowly and discreetly and reveals aromas of black cherries, raspberries, and geranium, along with light whispers of vanilla and spices. The palate proves snappy and complex but well balanced, with a convincing tannic texture and endowed with exceptional aromatic concentration. An important and princely red wine, the exaltation of pure Pinot Noir.
