Timorasso 'Il Montino' represents the flagship label of the La Colombera winery. It expresses the excellence of a single vineyard, considered a true cru of the estate. The accurate work of mass selection has allowed us to choose the best biotypes of Timorasso, a variety already present in the Colli Tortonesi lands since the Middle Ages, which has adapted very well to the local soil and climate. It is an important white for its structure, aromatic intensity and ability to evolve over time, showing excellent longevity. Today, Timorasso represents the emblem of the territory and confirms a qualitative growth that places it among the best in the region.
"Il Montino" is the most prestigious Timorasso of one of the historical realities of the Colli Tortonesi area. In the 1990s, La Colombera was one of the first wineries to realise the potential of Timorasso and to focus on valorising the vine, at a time when it had been almost completely abandoned in favour of more famous and profitable varieties. The estate covers some twenty hectares and is characterised by soils composed of layers of sandstone and clay marl, with the presence of limestone and tuff. The climate is temperate, already mitigated by the gentle sea breezes, which rise deeply inland. The Montino vineyard is located at an altitude of approximately 250 metres above sea level. After the harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine matures for nine months in stainless steel on the fine lees in order to acquire more structure and complexity.
The Timorasso wine 'Il Montino' La Colombera brings out the strong and decisive personality of this characteristic Piedmontese grape variety, which is increasingly popular with fans of great white wines. To the eye it has a brilliant golden yellow colour. The olfactory profile is rich and incisive, with aromas of ripe yellow fruit, nuances of wild flowers and chamomile, hints of aromatic herbs, hints of flint and hydrocarbon. The palate is well-structured, with deep, enveloping and persistent aromas that anticipate a harmonious, savoury finish characterised by a vibrant freshness. It is a white wine that reaches maturity only after several years of bottle ageing, when it develops intense mineral and pine resin aromas.
