The Count Paolo Marzotto is one of the greatest representatives of modern winemaking in Sicily and the father of the movement aimed at enhancing the Sicilian territory inspired by the great winemaking traditions of France. Paolo, in fact, is a wise and knowledgeable man who has demonstrated love, creativity, tenacity and passion since his early youth, arriving just over 20 years ago to establish the Baglio di Pianetto winery. It all began many years ago when Paolo asked his mother to buy him a red wine at an early age. His mother first refused his request, but then decided to grant it as long as he opened the bottle when he was 17. The story, similar to a film, unfolds as the boy becomes a young man and, having reached that age, decides to open the eagerly coveted bottle. He was extremely disappointed to discover that the red wine had completely evaporated and had an unpleasant taste. However, despite this, a strong desire to learn about winemaking techniques was instilled in the young boy, and so he began his adventure in search of the perfect formula to create his own wine. He wandered among the family properties in the regions of Veneto, Lombardy, Tuscany and Alto Adige, until he reached his native Sicily in 1997. Fascinated by that lush land, just like that strong childhood interest in discovering that wine, he decided to establish his own estate.

Today the Baglio del Pianetto winery, now in its third generation, exports its wines to more than 10 countries and covers an area of more than 100 hectares of vineyards, all of which are organically cultivated. Production is spread between two estates, so that the grapes can be controlled directly in the place where they are grown. The main, historical one is Pianetto, situated at an altitude of about 600 metres on the high, wooded and wild hills surrounding the city of Palermo. The second, the Baroli estate, was purchased in 1998 and is completely different in terms of territory, climate and vines: it is very close to Noto, in the Pachino area, only a few kilometres from the sea. In the first estate, Merlot, Cabernet, Grillo, Insolia, Catarratto and Petit Verdot grapes are grown on clayey soils, rich in minerals, while in Noto the vines are Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Syrah and Moscato di Noto and are planted on sandy soils.

Baglio di Pianetto wines are characterised by a profile of high quality and great tradition, with a clear sense of territoriality and the ability to maximise the characteristics of the grapes. The range includes classics, reserves, Natyr and organic single variety wines. These are expressions that are highly praised for their definition, balance, elegance and integrity, capable of enhancing the Sicilian territory from which they come in a precise and direct manner.
