Gianni Tessari comes from a family of winemakers in Monteforte d'Alpone, in the province of Verona, the land of Soave, the most famous white wine in the Veneto region. After finishing his agricultural studies, he began working on the family estate. Thanks to careful work in the vineyard and cellar, he has contributed to the qualitative renaissance of the area's wines, racking up a series of important awards from leading wine guides. The turning point came in 2013, when he decided to start his own project. Thus was born the Giannitessari brand, with the aim of producing a range of high quality wines, capable of representing the best of regional production: from sparkling wines to whites to reds.
The first step was the purchase of an estate in Roncà, which was later joined by vineyards in Soave and Colli Berici. Today the property covers a total of 55 hectares and is a solid reference point for those who want to learn about the wines of the Veneto region. Gianni Tessari wanted, in fact, to test himself in three different terroirs and with different grape varieties, both native and international. On the Soave estate he grows Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave on the basalt and tuff soils of ancient volcanic nature of the historic appellation that occupies the hilly area east of Verona. Great whites are produced here, characterized by a good predisposition to aging. The Lessini Mountains area is home to vineyards of Durella, an indigenous variety characterized by high acidity, which makes it possible to make excellent sparkling wine bases, especially for the production of Metodo Classico. The area has also proved suitable for the cultivation of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Red grapes, and in particular the most famous international grape varieties, have found their ideal habitat in the Berici Hills area, where Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Grenache vines are found, locally called Tai Rosso. A plurality of terroirs that allows each grape variety to be grown in the most suitable place and to offer a collection of excellent labels, covering every market demand. Gianni Tessari's work is geared towards enhancing the characteristics of each terroir through the pure and authentic expression of the different grape varieties, without enological forcing and always trying to bring to the forefront the varietal character of the grapes.
