Re-founded in 1999 by the Tuscan Falvo family together with a group of investors, Masseria Li Veli has quickly established itself as animportant winery in Apulia, particularly in the Salento peninsula. The winery's headquarters is in the town of Cellino San Marco, located in the province of Brindisi, where the Falvo family took over and restored an ancient masseria with the aim of restoring it to its former glory, when it was founded by Marquis Antonio De Viti de Marco at the end of the 19th century. From Tuscany, the Falvo family thus brought with them an ambitious entrepreneurial project and the experience of those who in 40 years had contributed to the prestige of Nobile and Vin Santo di Montepulciano, being the founding family of the historic Avignonesi winery. The definitive turning point for Masseria Li Veli came in 2008, when brothers Edoardo and Alfredo Falvo became the full owners of the estate, giving a strong commercial and qualitative boost to production and expanding the vineyard park. The beautiful wine cellar is built with carparo, a local stone that makes up the traditional star vaults, an element that is also present in the barrique cellar, where through a system of controlled temperature and humidity the wines rest.
Masseria Li Veli's vineyard extends over almost 50 hectares, entirely dedicated to traditional Apulian varieties such as Negroamaro, Susumaniello, Malvasia Nera, Primitivo, Aleatico, Verdeca and Fiano. The vines benefit from the maritime Mediterranean climate that characterises the Salento area, as well as from the clay, limestone, tuffaceous and sandy nature of the soils. Processing in the cellar involves fermentation in French oak vats or in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, aimed at enhancing the wine's aromas. As for the subsequent maturation phase, steel containers or French oak barrels and barriques are always used.
The production of the Masseria Li Veli wine cellar is centred on the enhancement of the Salento wine-growing tradition, interpreted in a modern key thanks to the use of avant-garde techniques and technologies. A prominent role is reserved in particular for red wines, Negroamaro and Primitivo above all.
