Formentini's Friulano Collio is a white wine made from pure Friulano grapes, a challenging variety with a particularly thin and delicate skin. Part of the harvest is vinified in steel, part cold macerated and then rested in oak vats. The result is a harmonious and full-bodied wine, ideal to sip during an aperitif with cold cuts, even better if typical of the area such as Prosciutto di San Daniele
The Friulano Collio Formentini is a white wine appreciated for its hints of dried fruit and flowers, qualities typical of the Friulano grape variety. Although it represents one of the quintessential native varieties of the eastern side of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and is widely spread in the territory of Collio Goriziano, where the Formentini winery operates, Friulano is a difficult grape to cultivate due to its particularly thin and delicate skin. This characteristic can favor the splitting of the berries and thus the development of molds or other diseases, a factor that often leads producers to decide to harvest the clusters slightly earlier.
The Formentini Friulano Collio is a pure expression of Friulano from vineyards located in the areas of Plessiva and San Floriano del Collio, planted on the characteristic "ponca," a type of soil formed by an alternation of marl and sandstone. Harvesting is done by hand, and the clusters are then vinified as white wine through gentle pressing and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, with some of the grapes undergoing 24 hours of skin maceration and subsequent fermentation in large wooden barrels. The maturation phase takes place in large 30-hectoliter oak vats, containers in which the wine rests for several months until the final bottling.
The Collio Friulano from the Formentini winery has a straw yellow color with lively greenish reflections. The aromatic profile expresses fruity and floral hints of white peach, pear, citrus, and chamomile, combined with touches of fresh almond and honey. The palate is soft, full, and harmonious, well supported by the pleasant fresh-sapidity component that anticipates the final sensations of white pulp fruit and almond.
