BARBERA 'LA BASARISCA' MAGNUM ERALDO REVELLI 2019 DESCRIPTION

Eraldo Revelli's Barbera 'La Basarisca' comes from a family that has been cultivating vines in Dogliani for several generations. Passion, tradition and profound knowledge of the territory are at the basis of a label that interprets very well the ancient customs of Piedmont's most popular wine. Precisely because of its natural freshness and pleasantness to drink, Barbera has always been the everyday wine, to be drunk informally and convivially at the table. Eraldo Revelli has been able to keep faith with its origins, but has given the wine a more elegant, intense and complex imprint, which highlights its best qualities.

'La Basarisca' is a Barbera produced by the Eraldo Revelli winery, a historic winery in the region, present in the Dogliani area since the early decades of the 20th century. The label comes from a blend composed of a preponderant percentage of Barbera and a small balance of Dolcetto. The vineyards are located in the commune of Farigliano, at an altitude of 470 metres above sea level and with a sunny south-westerly exposure. The vines have an average age of 15 years and are rooted in medium-textured, clay-limestone soils with the presence of tuff. The grapes are harvested by hand at the beginning of October and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for about ten days. The wine is aged for six months, partly in steel tanks and partly in large wooden barrels.

Eraldo Revelli's red Barbera 'La Basarisca' tells the story in the glass of a territory, of its grapes, of its traditions, of the taste for a straightforward, simple and satisfying wine. To the eye, it is dark garnet red in colour with purple reflections. Exuberant and rich, it expresses fragrant aromas of ripe red berry fruit, cherry, raspberry, wild strawberries, wild blackberry, scents of violets and delicate spicy notes. The entry on the palate is pleasantly fruity, characterised by a fine tannic texture and juicy, crisp aromas, which accompany a generous, rich and remarkably fresh finish.
