Cantina Tramin's Chardonnay is born in the cool peaks of South Tyrol, specifically in Tramin in the province of Bolzano. The winery was founded in 1898 by Christian Schrott and some local families to give subsistence and a future to local winemakers. Over time it has grown both in terms of quality of work and raw material and in terms of project adherents, so much so that it is appreciated both nationally and internationally. In 1971 it merged with the Egna Social Winery, and together, they acquired land in Mazzon and Glen, later dedicated to growing Pinot Noir. Today it has about 160 families and a total of 210 hectares of land fully planted with vines producing wines of refined quality.
Cantina Tramin's Chardonnay vineyards are located south of Bolzano, in the western part of the Adige Valley. The soils here are composed mainly of limestone, which ensures expressive richness for the Chardonnay grape variety. Work in the vineyard is done entirely by hand, devoting careful attention to organic fertilization of the soil, planting of flowers and plants to enrich the vegetation around the vineyards and management of foliage and wild grasses for a thriving ecosystem. Consistent temperature ranges between day and night ensure complete ripening of the clusters. Grapes are harvested by hand; in the winery, the bunches are soft-pressed and fermented in steel. It ages a few months in steel tanks.
To the eye, Cantina Tramin's Chardonnay appears a brilliant straw yellow with greenish reflections. On the nose, it releases aromas of ripe white-fleshed fruit, fresh notes of summer white flowers and light spacing on the finish; on the palate, it is elegant and enveloping with marked freshness accompanied by savoriness and minerality for a curious drink. In pairing, it is excellent with smoked salmon, fried seafood and shellfish in appetizers; also perfect with savoury pies made with seasonal vegetables. A wine that encompasses the most authentic hints of the Alto Adige region, thanks to the synergistic and precise work of people who are passionately dedicated to the art of winemaking.
