Abbazia di Novacella

Riesling Abbazia di Novacella 2023

The Riesling of the ancient Abbazia di Novacella is a fresh, young and easy-drinking white wine. The vineyards are located in the basin of Bressanone, an area characterised by soils composed of permeable moraine deposits that give flavour and minerality to the grapes. The colour is straw yellow with greenish reflections due to the brief refinement in stainless steel, while the bouquet is layered with citrus notes followed by scents of white flowers. The taste is delicate and fruity, reminiscent of white-fleshed fruit, the sip ends with an intense sapidity

RIESLING ABBAZIA DI NOVACELLA 2023 DESCRIPTION

Riesling is a white wine with fresh and mineral character, which belongs to the Classica line of wines from Abbazia di Novacella, a historic producer in Alto Adige. The winery is located in the Eisack Valley, the northernmost grape-growing area of our peninsula. In this area, in the heart of the Alps, a grape variety such as Riesling, a native of central Europe, expresses itself on excellent levels of quality with whites that interpret the aromatic framework of the variety very well.  Its unmistakable personality makes it particularly suitable for pairing with vitello tonnato, pumpkin ravioli, salmon or lightly spiced dishes.

Riesling is born in the wonderful area of Varna. On the sunny slopes of the Conca di Bressanone (Brixen Basin), the Abbey of Novacella cultivates mainly white grape varieties, and Riesling has found its area of choice right here in the heart of the Eisack Valley. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 650 and 800 meters above sea level, with well-sunlit exposures facing south, southeast and southwest. The very cool climate and stony soils, composed of moraine deposits with the presence of many minerals, including mycascists, gneisses and quartzites, have proven to be very suitable for the needs of the famous northern grape variety. The slow ripening of the clusters, allows grapes with particularly rich aromatic profiles to be brought to harvest. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 17-19 °C. The wine matures for 6 months in steel tanks before bottling.

Riesling Abbazia di Novacella is a white with a typically mountainous profile, a pure expression of the South Tyrolean terroir. At a glance it reveals a light yellow color with delicate greenish highlights. Fragrant and elegant, it gives a bouquet with scents of white flowers, notes of orange blossom, lime zest, aromas of citrus, green apple, peach, white-fleshed fruit and refreshing nuances of wild herbs typical of mountain flora. The palate is clear and flowing, with a sip characterized by fragrant fruit, crossed by a crisp savory trail, leading to a finish of vibrant mineral freshness. Already excellent to taste right away, it is a white that possesses good aging potential and reaches full expressive maturity after one or two years of bottle aging.
