GEVREY CHAMBERTIN JOSEPH DROUHIN 2022 DESCRIPTION

Joseph Drouhin's Gevrey Chambertin carries the flag for Burgundy wines high in one of the most extensive cellars in the region. Indeed, Joseph Drouhin owns 78 hectares, acquired over time by generations since 1880. The family's aim has always been to excel in all the numerous Burgundy appellations, giving the wines the opportunity to express themselves to their full potential and adopting, to this end, working methods that are totally based on naturalness: from infusions to nourish the plants to insects that protect against parasites.

Joseph Drouhin Gevrey Chambertin is a pure Pinot Noir that falls under the Appellation Communale of Burgundy. On the one hand, the winery is based on biodynamic principles, but on the other hand, all operations are carried out through rigorous controls and strict quality protocols. The grapes are harvested in perforated baskets to keep the berries as intact as possible. Fermentation is activated by indigenous yeasts and, with maceration, lasts 2 to 3 weeks at a controlled temperature. Ageing in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new, ranges from 14 to 18 months.

The Gevrey Chambertin Drouhin has a brilliant ruby red colour, full and sparkling. The bouquet of aromas emanating from the glass is at least hypnotic in its heterogeneity and absolute richness. The intensity of the fruit translates into berries, sour cherries and liquorice. Then come the aromas of sweet spices, especially nutmeg and hints of leather. In the mouth, it reveals its silkiness and softness, in a pleasant, full-bodied sip, where the tannins are harmoniously integrated in the elegant texture, with a freshness that urges compulsive drinking.
