Grillo 'Coste al Vento' comes from the sunny hills of Menfi, sloping gently down towards the Mediterranean Sea, caressed by the sea breezes that daily drift through the rows. Grillo, a great indigenous Sicilian variety, thus presents itself to the nose with a rich, ripe yellow fruit, which tells of a Mediterranean soul in which the scrub, herbs and shrubs evoke the territory. Cantine Barbera gives us a label that is also versatile at the table, thanks to a fresh and savoury sip in which these two components are balanced with absolute mastery.
Cantine Barbera's Grillo 'Coste al Vento' comes from almost twenty years old vines cultivated in vineyards with clay and mineral soil at an altitude of 220-230 metres above sea level. All operations in the vineyard follow organic farming principles. Pellicular maceration lasts 36 hours, and fermentation takes place on the skins in steel tanks thanks to indigenous yeasts and the use of a pied-de-cuve. The ageing phase lasts 6 months and occurs on the fine lees in steel and oak tonneaux. At the end of maturation, the wine is then bottled and placed on the market.
Coste al Vento' Grillo wine announces itself to the eye with a deep, concentrated straw yellow colour. An interweaving of complex and layered aromas delineates a rich nose in which fruity, buttery and pastry notes alternate with Mediterranean scents and brackish nuances. It is full-bodied, tasty on the palate, with a mineral and saline flavour, fresh and persistent in the finish. With this label, winemaker Marilena Barbera has won important critical acclaim but, above all, she has proved capable of astonishing and captivating many wine-lovers, thrilled by the aromas and flavours typical of Menfi's magnificent terroir, illuminated by sea waves of sun and salt.
